There is a Taiwanese saying that "Where there's a wisp of smoke from the kitchen chimney, there will be lurou fan (braised pork rice). Braised pork rice, or better known as lurou fan is almost synonymous as a staple food to Taiwanese.
The status of lurou fan in Taiwanese's heart is unquestionable to the extent that ex-Taipei Mayor Hau Long-Bin wrote to Michelin's guide group's editorial manager to have them revise the original text to "Braised Pork Rice, a true classic Taiwanese street delicacy" after Michelin guide mistakenly labelled the dish as elemental staple of Shandong province.
As lurou fan is a national dish, it is widely available at restaurants throughout Taiwan. It is a simple dish with braised pork spooned over the hot rice, and sometimes accompanied with extra side dishes to be shared among peers. One of the shop that are well known for specializing this dish is Jin Feng.
Things were well organized at Jin Feng, they have a separate counter for takeaway orders. For dine in, walk to any empty table, fill in the order chit and the staff will come to pick your order. We arrived here at 3pm as to avoid peak hours, as we heard the restaurant will be extremely chaotic at peak hours.
A small sized braised pork rice (30 NTD) comes with a blanket of braised pork spread out on top. The braised pork were exceptionally tender, well balanced in the meaty and oily part.
The soy sauce was not the typical salty soy sauce we used to have but it was a mixture of pleasant taste of spices. The sauce was infused to the rice beneath the pork, with every grain of the rice well coated with the flavourful sauce.
We really loved the rice as each grain were distinctive of each others, alike Japanese rice. Although braised pork rice was a simple combination but the satisfaction of having them was unbeatable.
The blanched water spinach (20 NTD) was doused with oyster sauce, and the chef has prepared it so well that it remained crispy and fresh. We never thought a simple blanched water spinach could come to this extent of delicious. Meanwhile, the braised egg (10 NTD) was flavourful and matched the braised pork rice well.
Potside sticker soup / DingBianCuo (50 NTD) came with 2 pieces of rolled flour cakes and starch coated pork. The starch coated pork was sticky soft and practically required no chewing. The soup was not too heavy in taste, nice enough for soothing after a heavy meal.
To get to Jin Feng restaurant, take MRT red line to Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial hall and take exit #2. Walk for a short distance and you will see Jin Feng restaurant.

As Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall was not far away from Jin Feng restaurant, we walked there to witness the hourly changing guard ceremony. Chiang Kai-Shek (CKS) Memorial Hall was built to commemorate the late president of Taiwan Chiang Kai-Shek.
There were 2 side entrances to CKS memorial hall, namely Dazhong and Daxiao gate at south and north side respectively. The main entrance is Dazhong ZhiZheng, facing Zhongshan South Road.
We even seen local people bringing their pets to the surrounding of CKS hall but they were not allowed inside the memorial hall.
The memorial hall is painted with pure white colour and octagonal in shape with blue roof. To reach the main entrance, one have to go through 89 steps, representing the age of Chiang Kai-Shek.
Inside the memorial hall, there are 2 guards guarding the status of Chiang Kai-Shek and the guard changing ceremony started precisely every hours. There will be guards preventing the tourists or observers to pass through the gated areas, as the guards will perform stuns their bayonets.
However, there will always be crowd with cameras in the hall hence be prepared to be squeezed.
At the lower floor, there were history and display of Chiang Kai-Shek's life and Taiwan's history.
The surrounding area is always full with people and there might be some ongoing activities, we did not spend much time outdoor as it was hot and started to get late. Thus we proceed to our next destination - Wu Fen Pu for some shopping!
