Paya Terubong Night Market is more like a market to serve the needs of the surrounding community. Every Sunday, the night market occupies the stretch of road off Jalan Paya Terubong (behind Permata sports complex). Goodies ranging from clothes, women's accessories, mobile phone covers, shoes, home gadgets and etc. At the same time, there are also a handful of food stalls which are unique to this night market solely
The temporary stalls are setup on both sides of the road, providing a narrow passage for visitors to squeeze through. Comparing to the other major night markets in Penang, Paya Terubong night market is relatively smaller in size, though that shall not be an excuse to skip here as surprises are left for those willing to attain it.
To quote a few examples, food skewers rojak, duck pancakes and Korean styled fried chicken are the unique food over here. Do try out the food skewers rojak, whereby you glaze the fruits or fried ingredients skewers with the spicy rojak & peanut sauce. Thus far, this is the only stall we have seen serving rojak in such an unique way.
Most patrons probably would be excited to have some frying food for the night, and there is a stall selling a variety of fried food and the queue was never ceasing.
Otherwise, take away a few slices of cakes or packets of biscuits, which the varieties are displayed on the vintage tin boxes. For some senior Penangites, the vintage tin boxes probably are reminiscence of their good memories during their childhood.
Other than that, pack a few of your favorite tidbits / preserved junk food, or pronounced as "salty-sour-sweet" in Hokkien. Sucking them in the mouth provides an alternative for candies to keep you awake during your exhausting bus journeys.
Presence of such a long snake in the night market has generated some hoo-hah in the market, drawing attention from the passer-by. It turned out to be a stall selling essential oils for massaging to improve blood circulations.
An assortment of goodies is sold here. Come here and dig your wonder and you might find something useful to improve your life quality perhaps?
